"Thank you for the very quick response before Christmas when I called your company for some help. You quickly identified the problem and arranged for the new heat exchanger to be ordered. You showed that you could get the heat exchanger cheaper than I could and were prepared to pass on those savings to us. The idea of changing the system to a sealed one has improved it enormously, there has not been any more air building up and it seems to be running much more quietly. Add to that very competitive rates for your time and we are very happy with the results, so thank you again. As discussed we have 3 boilers at this location and would be keen to have them all serviced together later on this year before the winter. "Sebastien and Chris were involved with a refurbishment of our kitchen and two bathrooms over several months. They fitted a new external boiler, two showers, new bathrooms and wired and plumbed in our kitchen and utility room. They were unfailingly reliable and friendly, and worked incredibly hard. They fitted in with other trades as needed to get the work done as quickly as possible. We particularly appreciated how proactive they were in making suggestions for different ways to make systems work - to save money, to be more efficient, to improve water pressure - but at the same time we felt they really listened to how we wanted things to be. "Our old inefficient ‘gas back boiler’ had been causing us trouble for years, and costing us lots of money in energy bills and repairs. We finally took the bold step and converted to a modern efficient Combi boiler. Where do we start...The Works turned up on the day they said and on time. Dust sheeted the whole house practically, very clean and tidy. Finished when they said they would. Gave us a full verbal and written instructions on how to operate the new system, and all the work backed up with a 5 year guarantee. We only wish we had down the work earlier."

When our old oil fired boiler packed up some 16 months ago we took the opportunity to rearrange the utility room to give us some more space. Following the advice from The Works M&B We decided to downsize the boiler because the old one gave out a maximum of 32 kW and the peak load for the house was only 15 kW due to the different upgrades over the years (cavity filed insulation, double glassing and loft insulation). Clearly we were overpowered! We chose to go down to16-21 kW which still gave us around 30% overcapacity in case of extensions etc. We changed from a floor mounted boiler which was about the same size as a washing machine to a wall- mounted one only half as deep but which fitted to the same flue vent. A couple of days work from a prompt, neat and tidy team and the job was done. The washing machine now sits below the new boiler instead of beside the old one. This gave us room for a chest freezer
Here we are some 16 months later. Following a very cold winter in which we ran the boiler hard we can now evaluate the results. We calculate we have used around 35% less oil with the new boiler than with the old for the same heating in the house. The savings run at around £180-200 per year if heating oil is around 60p per litre. It is quieter, smaller and the timer is more flexible. Turns out it was well worth doing.
